Annapolis Wherry – Glassing the Hull

After I sanded the whole boat with 120-220 grit sandpaper it was time to fiberglass the bow, the bottom of the hull, and the sole. I used the 6 oz. fiberglass cloth included in the kit and after laying it down, spread a first coat of epoxy with a squeegee and then rolled and tipped two additional coats of unthickened epoxy over the entire boat. The additional epoxy hides the weave of the cloth, provides abrasion resistance, and seals the plywood hull from moisture. It went on quickly, and the final surface was very smooth. The only downside was waiting days for it to dry!
