After researching boats that I could build in my basement shop (remembering the scuttle limitations), I decided to start with something simple – a kit boat. I found the Annapolis Wherry, made by Chesapeake Light Craft, here, which was narrow enough to fit through the infamous scuttle. Also, I had rowed crew in college and been rowing ever since, so it seemed to fit the bill. It was a fairly easy build as the parts were all CNC cut, there was a manual, and I had the tools I needed. It took about a year, although it was done on weekends and in my spare time. I suppose it could have been built in around 6 months with more full-time work. Lovely boat. Not only beautiful, it rows and tracks like a dream. It is quite light, maybe 60 lbs. or so.

Launch day and first row. Very stable and smooth.
